The Department was established in 1923 as the Cheyenne Wells Hose Company #1 and served as such until 1958 when the #1 Fire Protection District was formed.  CWFD has been the manpower force for the District ever since.        Today CWFD is charged with protecting about 1300 residents and 900 square miles of the eastern one-half of Cheyenne County, Colorado.  We also provide mutual aid to all surrounding districts and areas of Colorado and Kansas.
